Candy Cane Smores

If I have to choose one local store to buy chocolate World Market would be my choice.

I love that no matter what time of the year I do I find good quality European chocolate. Don’t get me wrong, I love all kinds of chocolate, but I have to say, Belgian chocolate is the way to this girl’s heart.

The local (and by that I mean the closest one) World Market is a little out-of-the-way but we do manage to visit it every other weekend.

Last weekend we got in the area and of course I had to stock up on some chocolate. Browsing through the isles, day dreaming and checking new products I got to the Christmas area.

Candy cane, peppermint bark, mints and all kinds of treats and up above, on the highest shelf, there it was a box with peppermint smores.

The temptation was big, i have to admit, but the $2.99 price tag for one tiny bite of peppermint s’more kinda stopped me.

I told myself, i can do that. I don’t have to pay $3 for it. I mean, it’s not big deal to make smores.

You toast the marshmallow, pack it between chocolate and graham cracker and you’re done.  Right?

With a little bit of practice and after burning one pan I figured out how to make smores indoor.

It’s easy, but you have to work fast.

Let me show you how.

Ingredients

  • 16 graham crackers squares (8 crackers halved)
  • 16 big marshmallows
  • 1 cup semi sweet chocolate chips
  • 5 tbsp heavy cream
  • crushed candy cane

Instructions

  1. Heat the oven to 300F.
  2. In a microwave safe bowl place the chocolate chips and heavy cream and heat until melted and smooth, stirring every 30 seconds.
  3. Line the graham crackers on a cookie sheet, top with a marshmallow and place in the oven for about 2 minutes or until the marshmallows are slightly golden on top and puffed.
  4. As soon as you get the pan out of the oven, pour the melted chocolate in a pastry bag, cut the tip with the scissors (a small hole) and pipe over the toasted marshmallows.
  5. Sprinkle candy cane on top and enjoy!

Everyday we were in Paris and then London recently on a quick holiday, we bought four of the best chocolates we could find and then savoured them slowly. Unfortunately that has spoilt ordinary chocolate for me - it will never taste good again. So, I agree with you - the choice of the chocolate you use in great recipe like this makes or breaks it.

Oh, the weather outside is frightful...at least here in Canada. Which means, Christmas is fast approaching. At my last count, it's 7 weeks away! And these candy cane s'mores smell like Christmas...woohoo...

Hi Devan, My advice is to eat them as soon as you make them, after few hours the marshmallows are not as gooey as they are supposed to be. Roxana

I just made these - here are some tips that others might find useful: - I didn't have a pastry bag, so I just used a regular ziplock which worked fine - however, the chocolate was HOT, so make sure you have a towel or something between your hand and the chocolate. I burnt myself! - these lasted pretty well sitting out overnight. The marshmallow didn't get stale - I would just say it got chewy (which still tasted delicious!). The chocolate stayed soft (didn't harden up like I expected) - make sure that the marshmallow isn't underdone. It actually took me way more than 2 minutes for them to puff up (maybe my oven rack was too low)...it took mine over 5 minutes, and they weren't even fully done. If it isn't puffy and toasted, the marshmallow won't fall flat properly when you drizzle chocolate and it'll be hard to take a bite! They were DELICIOUS and pretty easy!
